The Del Mar Rose Society was founded in January 2000 in celebration of the rose.
The Society meets at the Del Mar Powerhouse Community Center, 1658 Coast Blvd, Del Mar. Meetings are held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. the last Thursday of the month from January through October.
The Del Mar Rose Society offers friendly support to members in their efforts to grow the best roses possible. Meetings are planned to help beginner and expert rose growers alike in the cultivation of roses. Guest speakers cover a wide range of rose related topics and time is given to addressing problems in the garden. Members are encouraged to "bring problems for discussion".
Programs have included: new rose introductions, best roses for the area, how to start a rose garden, soil amendments and fertilizers, organic vs. non-organic growing, floral arrangements, grooming roses for exhibition and member's secrets for success.
Our community outreach efforts include partnership with the Del Mar Library in a yearly Member's Rose Show at the Library and a Thanksgiving of Roses bouquet making event at the Powerhouse Community Center in partnership with Del Mar Community Connections.
The Del Mar Rose Society is affiliated with the American Rose Society. Dues are $40 per year for individual or dual (same household) memberships. Visitors and guests are welcome.
